Tagless Neck Label Printing for Tees: Buyer Spec Guide
By Weavnora · Updated

Direct answer
What buyers need to know
Tagless neck label printing means printing the brand, size, and care details directly inside the back neck instead of sewing in a woven or printed tag. It removes neck itch, but it needs its own specification for print method, content, placement, and wash durability.
Why brands switch to tagless labels
Sewn neck labels can scratch, and customers often cut them out, removing brand and care information. Tagless neck label printing keeps that information on the garment and gives a cleaner, more premium inside finish. It is also a decoration process, so it needs approval like any other print.
Print methods compared
| Method | Handfeel | Durability | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screen printed label | Soft with water-based ink | Good when cured correctly | Economical across many pieces |
| Heat transfer label | Smooth film | Depends on transfer and press settings | Easy size changes |
| Woven label (sewn) | Can feel stiff | Very durable | Not tagless; risk of itch |
Choose screen printing for large, consistent runs, and heat transfer when many sizes or small text changes are needed. Compare both on the actual body fabric and wash recipe.
What content goes on the label
Required content depends on the destination market and the brand's compliance advice. Typical fields include brand name, size, fiber content, care instructions or symbols, and country of origin or identification details where required. Weavnora does not decide legal content for you; the buyer should confirm the final wording, and the factory prints exactly the approved artwork.
Placement and size
- Distance from the back neck seam to the top of the print.
- Maximum print width and height, kept small enough not to show through.
- Centered on the back neck, measured from the center back.
- Size variant handled by changing only the size field.
On light or thin fabrics, dark ink can show through to the outside. Heavy 220–300 GSM jersey reduces this, but test a white tee with a dark label anyway.

Wash durability
Ask for the printed label to be checked after the same wash recipe used on the garment, and after repeated home laundering if the brand requires it. Cracking, fading, or peeling of small text makes the size unreadable. Cure temperature and press settings are the main controls.
Buyer QA practice: during first article inspection, check that each size carries the correct size print, because label screens or transfers are swapped by size.
Garment-dyed programs
If garments are dyed after sewing, the label can be printed before or after dye. Printing before dye risks color change; printing after dye adds a step. Decide this at the RFQ stage and review a dyed sample.
Checklist
- Choose print method and ink or transfer type.
- Provide approved label artwork with all text per size.
- Define placement and maximum size.
- Specify wash test and acceptance.
- Confirm sequence with garment dye or wash.
Weavnora's style MOQ is 1,000 pieces with mixed colors and sizes when the assortment is clear; samples take about 7 days after confirmation and bulk about 30 days after approvals, project-dependent.
